English for job interviews

An interview is not a test of your English. It is about fifteen questions, most of which you can predict, delivered under pressure in about forty minutes. That makes it rehearsable in a way that general fluency is not, which is good news if your English is decent but goes flat the moment it matters. The common failure has a specific shape: you prepare a good answer in your own language, translate it, and it arrives stiff, over formal and about twice as long as it should be. Interviewers hear the seams. So an hour of this work is narrow and practical. The five or six questions that always come, in English from the start rather than translated. Saying what you did instead of what your team did, which most people find genuinely hard. Having one number ready about your own work, because a number is what an interviewer remembers. And the small repairs: how to buy two seconds without saying sorry, how to ask for a question to be repeated so it sounds confident rather than apologetic.
