Spanish conversation practice

People who look for Spanish conversation have rarely started from nothing. Most arrived here by ear: music, series, a partner's family, a year somewhere. They understand nearly everything, they manage in a shop and at a table, and that is exactly where they stopped. The reason is uncomfortably simple. Once you are understood, nobody interrupts your sentence to say the verb is wrong. A mistake that does not obstruct meaning is never heard as a mistake, so it gets repeated a thousand times and sets. That is why talking with a friend, or with your mother in law, does not move the level however much of it you do. That changes what a paid hour is for. You do not need somebody who lets you talk, because you already have that for free. You need somebody who stops you mid sentence, at the same place, for the tenth time, until it changes. It is the job a friend will not do because it would be rude, and it is precisely what you are paying for. For that job, being in the room has one real advantage. Interrupting over a screen always lands half a second late and comes out harsh, so even good tutors give up and wait for the end of the thought. Across a table you interrupt with a look and one word, in the moment the error is spoken, which is the only moment anything is remembered. It is fair to say when you do not need this. If you are not at that plateau yet, if following a normal conversation still takes effort, then hours of talking are premature and expensive. Listening at full speed, daily, without subtitles in your own language, will do more, and it costs nothing. At the free first lesson, say plainly that you want to be interrupted. If the tutor nods along and compliments you for an hour, you have bought a pleasant hour and nothing else.
