Serbian tutors for foreigners

Learning Serbian while you live in Serbia is not the same as taking a language course somewhere else, and the useful tutors know the difference. Your actual week contains a form at the police station, a landlord who speaks quickly and does not slow down, a neighbour who asks something friendly that you cannot parse, and a shop where you already know the words but not in the order anyone says them. Textbook Serbian is polite, full and grammatical; what you hear is fast, elided and often in a case ending you have not met. The cases are the real wall, and they are the reason the first six months feel impossible. Seven of them, on every noun and adjective, changing what a word looks like before you have finished recognising it. A good tutor does not teach all seven in a table. They teach the two or three you need to say where you are going and where you have been, then add the others as the sentences you want to build demand them. Say in your first message what you actually need Serbian for, whether that is paperwork, work, or talking to family, because those point at different tutors. A free first lesson is normal.
