Conversation lessons in Belgrade

Belgrade is one of the few places in the country where conversation practice does not have to start with paying for it. There are language exchange evenings in cafes, clubs at cultural centres and institutes, and enough foreign residents that most of the larger languages have some group meeting somewhere. Check what is actually running this month yourself, because the list changes, but check it before you book a first paid hour. If you have never tried one of these, that is the thing to do first, and it costs nothing. If it solves your problem, good, and you can close this page. For a lot of people it does not, and the reason is worth knowing, because it is not a shortage of people to talk to. At a meetup nobody will tell you the same mistake twice. Strangers are polite, they came to spend an evening, and nobody interrupts a person they have just met to explain the same wrong form for the tenth time. They understand you, they nod, the conversation moves on. That is why a year of going regularly leaves many people speaking more fluently than before and making exactly the same errors. That is the job a paid hour does. Not giving you somebody to talk to, but giving somebody the standing to interrupt you, at the same place, until it changes. It takes a person who will not spare you and who remembers what you did last time. The two work best together. Meetups supply quantity and ease, the paid hour supplies the corrections nobody else will say out loud. In Belgrade you can have both in the same week, which in a smaller town usually is not possible. At the free first lesson, say how much you speak outside lessons and ask to be interrupted. If the whole session goes by without a single interruption, you have bought another pleasant forty five minutes.
