Physics lessons over video

Physics is really two subjects that happen to share a timetable slot. One is conceptual: what is actually happening, which way the force points, why the current divides the way it does. The other is computational, and it is applied maths wearing physics vocabulary, all rearranged formulas, units and powers of ten. Plenty of people are fine at the first and lose most of their marks in the second, then conclude they have no head for physics and go looking for somebody to explain the concepts again. You can work out which one you are before paying anybody. Take a marked paper and look only at where the marks went. If the working starts from the wrong idea, a misread situation or the wrong law picked up, the trouble is conceptual. If the setup is right and it falls apart once the symbols have to be moved around, the trouble is algebra, and a physics tutor is an expensive way to buy maths lessons. Those two cases want different people and different hours. One thing works better over video than it sounds. Almost every physics problem starts by drawing the situation and marking on the forces or the rays, and that is usually where the error enters, quietly, before anything has been calculated. On a shared surface the drawing becomes the thing you are both looking at, rather than something on the student's side of the desk. If your difficulty is purely algebraic, this buys you nothing a maths tutor would not, and it is worth saying so in the first message.
