IGCSE tutors

IGCSE is a British qualification taken all over the world, usually at international schools, and that is the whole point to understand before you hire anyone. The content overlaps with what a local school teaches, sometimes almost completely, but the examining does not. The paper has its own command words, its own mark schemes, and a habit of awarding marks for a method even when the final number is wrong. A tutor who knows only the national programme will teach the topic correctly and still leave your child writing answers in a shape the examiner does not reward. So the question to ask is not whether they teach the subject, but whether they have taught this specification, which board it was, and whether they have worked through its past papers. Anyone who has will immediately start talking about mark allocation rather than content. Two practical points. Check the board, because Cambridge and Edexcel differ enough to matter. And bring a past paper to the free first lesson rather than a textbook, because the paper is the thing being prepared for.
