B1 (Threshold / Intermediate)

Threshold is what the Council of Europe called B1, and it marks the point where a learner becomes an independent user: you manage on a trip, follow standard speech about familiar things, and explain an opinion or a plan without someone smoothing the way. Lessons move from producing correct sentences to producing connected ones, which is why linking words, narrative order and giving reasons take over from new tenses. Listening at natural speed is the usual bottleneck. It is also the level most commonly asked for by employers, so much of the work here is aimed at a specific certificate or interview.
