Group conversations

A group conversation holds up to 32 people. If you offer services, you can create groups and bring people into them. Anyone can take part in a group they are added to.

Creating a group

In Messages, press + and choose New Group Conversation.

Give it a Group name of up to 24 characters.

Under Search contacts..., type at least two letters of the name or email of someone you have already been in touch with. To bring in someone else, type their address under Invite by email.

Press Create.

A conversation between two people also becomes a group when a third person is added. Only a provider can bring a third person in.

Members and invitations

Members at the top of the conversation lists everyone in it. A crown marks the owner: whoever created the group or, in a conversation that began between two people, the one who offers services (or whoever started it, if both or neither of them do).

Add Members adds people you have been in touch with, or invites someone by email.

Someone who already has an account is added straight away, as a message request if you have not been in touch before.

Anyone else gets an email invitation, which works once and lasts 7 days. Until it is used it shows under Pending Invites, where you can cancel it, and it keeps a place in the group.

What the owner can do

Rename the group: open the menu beside it in your list and choose Rename. A name can be up to 24 characters.

Remove someone with the button beside their name in Members. The group leaves their list, and they can no longer post in it.

Leaving a group

To leave, choose Delete from the menu beside the group in your list. The group carries on without you.

The owner is the exception. When the owner leaves, or their account is deleted, the group locks for everyone: it can still be read, but nobody can post, add files, start a call or join. Before the owner leaves, Delete warns them that this will happen. A group cannot be handed to someone else, so if it should carry on, its owner should stay in it.
