English lessons for children

English is the one foreign language a child runs into before anyone teaches it to them. It comes from cartoons, from games with other children online, from whatever plays automatically after the video they chose. So they rarely arrive as blank slates. They arrive singing a chorus correctly, using two or three phrases in the right situations, and having no idea what the words inside them are. The first job is turning that into something usable on purpose rather than by accident: taking the fragments apart, finding out what the child actually thinks they mean, which is sometimes a surprise, and building outward from the words they already own. It works because they are not starting from nothing and they know it, which is a much better mood to learn in than page one of a textbook. Lessons are short and mostly spoken, in person or by video, and a free first one shows whether your child warms to the tutor.
